HISTORY CALLED. AND AMERICAN PHAROAH ANSWERED.

American Pharaoh (foaled February 2, 2012) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the American Triple Crown and the Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2015. In winning all four races, he became the first horse to win the “Grand Slam” of American horse racing. He was bred and owned by Ahmed Zayat of Zayat Stables, trained by Bob Baffert, and ridden in most races by Victor Espinoza.

American Pharoah began his 2015 journey with wins in the Rebel Stakes and Arkansas Derby and went on to win the 2015 Kentucky Derby and 2015 Preakness Stakes. He then won the Triple Crown at the 2015 Belmont Stakes, becoming the first American Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978 and the 12th in History. His winning time was the second-fastest for a Triple Crown winner and his closing quarter-mile time of 24.32 was faster than Secretariat’s. If you had the opportunity to watch it you will never forget it ~ the most exciting race we have ever seen.

Fun Facts:
• The most unusual characteristic of American Pharoah during his two-and three-year-old seasons is his short tail – it was apparently chewed off by another horse.

• American Pharoah’s name is inspired by that of his sire, Pioneer of the Nile. The misspelling of “Pharoah” is permanent, but inadvertent. Zayat claimed the spelling was the result of an error by The Jockey Club but they stated it was registered as submitted. The good news is ~ horses can’t spell.

And now…American Pharoah is enjoying a retirement fit for a King at Coolmore America (home of the finest stallions in North America). Ashford Stud, located in the heart of Kentucky’s famous Bluegrass, is Coolmore’s home in America.

Horse racing fans and enthusiasts are welcome to the farm for tours but remember it is a working thoroughbred horse farm. Tours run Monday to Friday and can be booked at www.visithorsecountry.com or via 859.963.1004.

If you’re in the area stop by for a chance to visit American Pharoah and the other champions! And if you’re interested in breeding, the 2016 stud fee is $200,00.00.
