The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced to medieval Europe. Mardi Gras in New Orleans is about music, parades, picnics, floats and YES alcoholic beverages too! You either wear a costume or dress in purple, green and gold wearing lots of beads. Let’s just say it’s a big party and during a normal year bring a large bag for all of the beads and trinkets you will catch during the parade. There will be many Mardi Gras Parades this year with spectacular floats, special Mardi Gras cocktails in bars and restaurants and king cakes.

If Mardi Gras is not your thing, you really need to check out New Orleans on a regular day. New Orleans is a Creole mingling of cultures with incredible food, architecture and people.

For me, New Orleans brings to mind beignets and coffee at Cafe’ Du Monde, BBQ Shrimp, Raw Oystersand Pat O’Brien’s for a World Famous Hurricane. If you are celebrating something special and planning your trip in advance book Commander’s Palace. Commander’s Palace has been a New Orleans landmark since 1893 and the food is amazing!!!

It’s a party any day and a great place to visit!!!
